Frequently Asked Questions

What are these? And what do they do?

  • These crocheted plushies are made in the Japanese style called amigurumi which means “crocheted or knitted plushies.“

  • These little guys have a variety of functions: excellent cuddle buddies, emotional support experts, great at high fives, best listeners for the workplace, and will mow your lawn (ok maybe they won’t mow your lawn, but they want to be helpful).

  • We added functionality with magnets and keychains!

WHAT ARE THEY MADE OF?

  • We seek the most eco-friendly materials on the market we can find. For now cotton is the most accessible natural fiber. Our goal is to promote Tencel(or Lyocell) as our predominant yarn as it is the most eco-friendly option on the market, but options now are very limited.

  • Kapok is used as the main filler, with yarn scraps added as well (isn’t that eco-friendly!).

  • The Eyes are currently made of plastic (for now) and are called Safety Eyes. It is our hope that better options will open up for materials to replace them but becoming eco-friendly is a journey.

What is Kapok?

  • Kapok is a bean fluff from a native wild tree from the amazon now grown mostly in Asia and Indonesia. It has hypoallergenic and

    dust mite resistant qualities.

  • This was the product used in most plushies

    before synthetic fillers were introduced

    into the market.

  • The seeds are also used to make soaps, fertilizer and

    cattle feed.

ARE THEY SAFE FOR CHILDREN?

  • Yes they are! We choose our products carefully and make sure our yarn is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. Our safety eyes are made for use with children.

Are They safe for pets?

  • Unfortunately, no. Pets shouldn’t chew toys made of long yarn fibers as they can mess up their digestion. The safety eyes may also become dislodged and become a choking hazard.

Are these really handmade?

  • Absolutely! Crochet has never been able to be created by machine. Every plushie is made with great care and love. We thank you for your interest and support!

How long does it take to make one?

  • Our plushies range from roughly a half hour up to three hours depending on the complexity. Many projects do take longer, but we choose to keep it simpler!

Can I learn to make these?

  • Of course! We have made kits in the past with video instructions and intend to have them returned to our store with more helpful videos. Hopefully by Christmas 2024.

  • In the meantime we invite you to watch tutorials and be conscious about the yarn you buy (try to avoid Acrylic, Viscose and Bamboo).
